Unit 3 Blog

Hey guys,

SO, here's what's on my mind today...

When reflecting on my well-being, I would give my physical well-being a 6, my spiritual well-being an 8 and my psychological well-being a 7. I chose to give my physical well-being a 6 because I am not as healthy as I would like to be. I would use the excuse of me getting older as the reason of why I have gotten out of shape, but I know it’s because I haven't been putting as much on my physical health as everyone. I do a lot for my family and I'm often too tired to go to the YMCA and work out. I have many DVDs and exercise equipment, but it is still harder to get motivated.

I gave my spiritual well-being an 8 because I think I have a good understanding of the forces within us that allow us to achieve great things. I believe that my thoughts really do have the ability to make things happen. While I do believe that being religious and being spiritual are two different things, I do believe that all of our thoughts, words, and prayers are heard …by somebody.  I’m not gonna get into ghosts and things, but I don't believe that death is the end. I have had many dreams of my loved ones that have passed and when I woke up, I felt refreshed and happy. Its like we were having a conversation and laughing like old times. I felt assured that they were still with me and watching over me. I think that you have to be comfortable in your spirituality in order to receive messages from those that have passed on.

My psychological well-being is a 7 because while I have been doing well with controlling my emotions and combating depression, I still falter every now and then and allow the trials in my lift to take over. If I were to develop goals for myself in each area, I would say that I will get back into the gym and start working out again. It’s easier said than done, but I know that if I want to get healthy so I can have a long, healthy life, I have to do it…or else stop complaining about it. Spiritually, I think I can look inward and focus on the world around me. I can start looking at life on this earth and understand that while our physical life is temporary, we all can still live on through our actions and the impressions that we leave on people.

Psychologically I have already given myself the goal of looking on the bright side instead of assuming the worse.  Financially, my income is not where I want it to be, yet I have always managed to keep all our bills paid and keep a kitchen full of food. My children are healthy and do want for anything. I have spent countless months worrying about paying my car note, rent, and bills, yet each month it gets done. In fact, I just recently made my final payment on my car, so now it’s mine! I never thought I would see the day when I would pay that thing off, but I did, and I know it’s because I kept positive thoughts and didn't falter in my determination to pay it.

Activities that I can do are to definitely incorporate more breathing exercises into my day. I can finally open those yoga DVDs and start working on my physical body. I can further teach myself to relax by calming my mind before bedtime so I’m not up all night tossing and turning, which will give me much needed energy to exercise.

Listening to the exercise The Crime of the Century was amazingly restful. I have listened to those types of exercises for my Complementary and Alternative Medicine class and thoroughly enjoyed. I was surprised that I was able to lie down and breathe without being interrupted for the 19 minutes and 32 seconds that it took to complete it! I had on earphones, and could still hear my kids, but the voice talking to me was much more appealing. In fact, it was so relaxing that I took a 30 minute nap directly afterwards and woke up invigorated!

Going over the seven areas of the body and explaining how they correspond with the colors of the rainbow was something that I was already familiar with, but listening to it today reminded me of what I needed to work on within myself. It’s always good to remind yourself that you are grounded, centered, loved, and that your life has meaning and purpose. It’s easy to forget those things when you are running around taking care of a family and trying to do things for yourself too. Overall, I loved the exercise and I will try and do some breathing every day at some point.

Thanks guys,
Hanan
